Detainees in an Emirati prison are sending out distress calls


The Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain said that it's received new appeals from detainees and their families, thanks to the conditions of their detention within the UAE Al-Wathba prison in Abu Dhabi .

The organization clarified that these appeals describe the suffering of the detainees after the outbreak of the Corona virus during this prison, in light of the failure of the authorities liable for providing them with the required care, or limiting the transmission of infection to more prisoners.

The organization quoted the families of 1 of the detainees as saying that there's no security or judicial authority within the Emirates that responds to the calls of the families of the prisoners.

The organization has involved the formation of a popular opinion pressing the Emirati system to release prisoners of conscience, and to require preventive measures to guard detainees from the spread of the Corona virus.

Among the detainees that the organization spoke about is that the Jordanian detainee in Al-Wathba prison Bahaa Matar, who confirmed the looks of symptoms of infection with the Corona virus, as he began to feel severe weakness in his body and a persistent headache with a really heat and shortness of breath, without providing the UAE authorities any Care and without isolating it from the remainder of the healthy detainees.

In a complaint by the family of Jordanian detainee Maher Abu Shawareb, 39, she said that infections with the Corona virus are constantly increasing inside the prison, as there's no medical aid for the injured or appropriate conditions which will avoid contact with infected detainees.

The organization received an audio message from the family of the 2 Jordanian brothers Abdullah and Yasser Abu Bakr, who are detained inside Al Wathba prison, during which the 2 brothers expressed the suffering they're experiencing within the prison due to the poor conditions of detention.
